When DermSync tries to create a patient profile when a similar (but not identical) profile already exists on DermEngine, a notification will appear prompting you and your clinic members to review the potentially duplicate cases and determine whether a merge is necessary or can be dismissed. To learn how to manage your duplicate patient profile candidates, follow the instructions below:
- Click the Patients option in the top menu bar, then select Potential Duplicates from the drop-down menu.
Alternatively, you may click the notification icon in the corner of your screen and select Resolve to review patients who many have duplicate profiles. (Note that even if you have multiple potential duplicate patients you will only receive one notification.) - Here, you will be able to review all potential duplicate profiles and merge them if necessary. To manage a merge click the Review button. Alternatively, you can dismiss the conflict by clicking Ignore.
- Select or edit patient demographic information to preserve in the merged patient (Primary Patient). Note that all deselected fields will be permanently removed. When complete, click Merge Patients.
- A notification will appear asking you to confirm the merging process. When ready, click Yes Merge Profiles. Please be sure that you wish to merge the patients, as this cannot be undone.
Patients with potential duplicate profiles will be indicated on the patient list as well as on the Patient’s Spots page as shown below:
*Please note that this will not affect existing duplicate patients under your clinic, and only new patients automatically added via the PMS/EMR integration (DermSync or direct API) will be checked against the existing patients.
